Remakes & Reboots...WTF????

Hello All...so it seems the trend in Hollywood is "even if it is close to perfection...let's screw with it...and redo it". Hollywood is in this vicious cycle of remaking classic films that should not be touched, and rebooting films that never should have been rebooted. Let's give a few examples of the remakes/reboots that have been made:

  • Nightmare on Elm St
  • Friday the 13th
  • Footloose
  • Arthur
  • Halloween I,II
  • The Goodbye Girl
  • The In-Laws
Do I really need to continue? How about I list some on the remakes that are in the works and scheduled to be released soon....sit down for this list:

  • Cliffhanger
  • Fletch
  • Robocop
  • Gremlins
  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith
  • Pet Semetary
  • Police Academy
  • Porky's
  • Red Dawn
  • Short Circut
These are only a few of what Hollywood has in store for us. Be sure to listen in to our show to hear our thoughts on these topics and many more. It is my opinion that Hollywood is doing 2 things by re-doing these movies.

  1. They are running out of original ideas and have no clue where to go from here.
  2. They know that these past movies were somewhat a success, and therefore think that they can play it safe and have the same results as before, but with a newer audience & less risk of losing multi-millions.
Whatever the case is, we are in for the long haul with these remakes. Hollywood has plenty planned for the future, and all it takes is one remake to be a hit and that will open the floodgates for a whole bunch more...

Till next week....

  1. Hey Scott, Don't forget the remake of The Thing.

  2. "The Thing" is actually a PREQUEL not so much a remake...

  3. Actually, The Thing was already remade from the original film in the 50's or 60's, and why be picky...the idea is still a remake :-)

  4. good article Mr. MovieNews, I definitely subscribe to the 'running out of ideas' notion. Ever since I heard they were redoing Footloose the movie buff in me started dying just a little bit ; (

I'm always arguing with people that when a movie comes out that is particularly DIFFERENT, either unlike anything seen before or at least a very fresh re-imagining of an old idea, that movie deserves a little more credit than a clever retooling of stale ideas . . .
